Proud to be ‘Made in Wales’

Valero's Pembroke refinery, on the south west coast of Wales, has been refining since 1964 and is one of the largest refineries in Western Europe. It occupies approximately 450 acres of a 1,275-acre site on the southern shore of the Milford Haven Waterway.

Throughput capacity is around 270,000 barrels of refined product a day – which equates to 43 million litres.

The refinery is a major national employer in Wales with more than 500 employees and hundreds of term contractors. In addition, the refinery runs apprentice and bursary schemes to train and retain new entrants to the refining industry.

Community Involvement:

At Valero, we share our success with the communities in which we live and work, and take pride in being a good neighbour.

There has been over 50 years of community engagement and charitable support in Pembrokeshire. Plus, in recent years, the Pembroke Valero Volunteer Council has seen hundreds of employees and contractors along with their friends and family complete thousands of volunteering hours for charitable causes and local community projects throughout Pembrokeshire and West Wales.

A Charity of the Year is selected each year to receive additional attention from the refinery's community support and fundraising efforts, including previous winners the Wales Air Ambulance, Tŷ Hafan, Macmillan Cancer Support, Paul Sartori Foundation, SNAP Pembrokeshire, HOPE MS Therapy Centre, Mind Pembrokeshire and the Pembrokeshire Sibling Group.

There is also support for extracurricular education, environmental projects and initiatives to promote culture and the arts, including:

- Annual sponsor of the Arts & Business Cymru (Wales) awards, recognizing the partnerships

- Support for Pembrokeshire County Council's sport development program Sport Pembrokeshire

- Key partner in the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama's Pembrokeshire Young Actors Studio, bringing opportunities for first-class drama tuition to young people in West Wales

- Sponsorship of the VC Gallery, an arts engagement project for ex-service personnel and veterans

- Pembroke's Women in Industry initiative formed in 2017 to promote careers in engineering for women and supports the recruitment and retention of female members of the refinery workforce

- Annual Primary School Environmental Project introduces hundreds of local schoolchildren to Pembrokeshire wildlife at refinery's own Environmental Centre on the refinery estate, including pond-dipping and exploring surrounding woodland
